Kidz Camp - Letter to Parents

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Hello from the Kidz Camp Project Leaders! We are really looking forward to Kidz Camp this year, and we hope that you and your children are too! We would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves to you, and also to explain a little more about the project, and what your children will be doing on the 4 days that we are away for.

Who are we?

We are a student led voluntary project at Warwick University and have the support of the Warwick Volunteers staff team. There are two student project leaders, James who was previously involved with the Got Politics project and led an after school club, and Lee who has previously volunteered with Fun With Numbers, teaching fun maths sessions to primary school pupils. We are also taking a group of 10 other student volunteers, many of whom have had other voluntary roles with children, and all are very enthusiastic about Kidz Camp! We have been planning and fundraising for Kidz Camp since April 2017, and hopefully, our efforts will make this a fantastic trip for the children.

What is Kidz Camp?

Kidz Camp is a student led 4-day residential trip for the year 5 class at Charter Primary School which runs each year.

What are the Aims and Objectives of Kidz Camp?

Our aim is to provide a free holiday for school children that may not have had the opportunity otherwise. We also hope to develop confidence and independence in the children, as for many of them, it may be their first time being away from family for an extended period of time. We also hope that they will be able to have a fun time!

When will Kidz Camp take place?

Kidz Camp will run from Monday 19 March - Thursday 22 March 2018.

What time will Kidz Camp begin and end?

We will depart from the school at 9.30am on Monday 19 March, and return to the school by 3:00pm on Thursday 22 of March, but please drop off/ collect your children at the usual school times.

Where will Kidz Camp take place?

Kidz Camp will take place at the National Forest Youth Hostel, which is near Burton Upon Trent, and approx. 45 mins away by car. We have used the same hostel for many years. It is situated in a great location, very clean, has en-suite rooms and lots of space for activities. We have exclusive use of the hostel, so for the duration of the trip this hostel will only be used by Kidz Camp. The website for the hostel is:

What will we do on Kidz Camp?

A lot! We have planned three trips during Kidz Camp, as well as many activities to keep the children entertained. We will be going to Twycross Zoo (, Conkers ( and Dudley Canal Tunnel and Limestone Mines ( When we are not on one of these trips, we will be engaging in activities led by our volunteers. These will include such things as an arts and crafts, pizza and cake baking, sports activities, a film night and loads more!

What will we be eating on Kidz Camp?

The volunteers will be preparing breakfast, lunch and dinner every day for the children. The menu has not yet been decided, but the food shall be kept healthy! On the days that we are on trips we will make a packed lunch to take with us. We will happily cater for dietary restrictions wherever possible.
