Scarlett Fever Letter to Parents - May 2018

Dear Parents/Carers

We would like to let you know that we have had a confirmed case of scarlet fever in school this week.

Anybody can catch scarlet fever, but it usually affects children aged two to eight years old. Please contact your GP if you think your child shows any symptoms. This is the NHS website link.

Treatment is straightforward and usually involves a course of antibiotics. The fever will normally disappear within 24 hours of starting antibiotics and the other symptoms usually go within a few days. However, the whole course of treatment must be finished to make sure the infection is fully cleared.

With treatment, most people recover in around four to five days and can return to school after antibiotic treatment for 24 hours as long as they feel well in themselves.

Yours sincerely

Mrs L Taylor
